It all began with Dan Patrick wearing a “Happy Gilmore 2” hoodie on his show — and it might end with Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry landing a role in an Adam Sandler movie.

While appearing on “The Dan Patrick Show” on Tuesday, Henry, a former Alabama star, said that reaching 2,000 rushing yards in the 2024 season wasn’t something he was focused on. But by the end of the segment, he had a brand-new reason to aim for that rare mark.

As the interview wrapped up, Henry complimented Patrick’s lime-green hoodie, saying it had “brightened up” his day. Patrick explained it was a promo item for the upcoming “Happy Gilmore” sequel. Henry, a longtime Sandler fan, responded enthusiastically: “If you ever see him again, tell him I’m a really big fan. I’d really love to meet him one day.”

Patrick took it a step further and made a playful offer: “If you get to 2,000 yards, I’ll get you in a Sandler movie.”

Henry agreed without hesitation: “Say no more. Remember that now.”

When Patrick joked that he had the easy part of the deal, Henry repeated: “No pressure. The bet is on.”

Patrick later contacted Sandler, who confirmed the offer in a video message Henry saw during a Ravens practice.

“If you get over 2,000 yards this season, not only are you in the movie,” Sandler told Henry, “but we’ll have dinner and talk about Dan Patrick’s beard struggles.”

Henry finished the 2024 season with 1,921 rushing yards — just 79 shy of the milestone. It marked the 11th-highest single-season total in NFL history. Had he reached 2,000, Henry would have been the first player to do it twice, having previously rushed for 2,027 yards in 2020 with the Titans.

“Getting 2,000 wasn’t a big deal to me,” Henry said afterward. “But once you’re that close, people start saying, ‘Why couldn’t you get 2,000?’ I don’t know — I guess it just wasn’t meant to be.”

Still, there’s some Alabama pride in the upcoming movie — former Crimson Tide golfer Justin Thomas is among the PGA Tour pros making cameo appearances in “Happy Gilmore 2.”
