The Pittsburgh Steelers are still navigating their path as the offseason moves into the summer stretch. With free agency and the NFL Draft now in the rearview mirror, several roster questions remain as the team enters Organized Team Activities (OTAs).
The biggest uncertainty surrounds the quarterback position. The Steelers are still awaiting a definitive decision from Aaron Rodgers, who would likely become the starting QB if he signs. Meanwhile, that storyline was briefly overshadowed by a surprising trade that sent wide receiver George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys.
Despite the upheaval, the team is pressing forward, working to address roster gaps and identify under-the-radar talent. One such hopeful is undrafted rookie Gareth Warren, who joined the Steelers following a strong showing at rookie minicamp. He recently shared his experience on the “Steelers Afternoon Drive” podcast.
“My agent reached out after the draft. Usually, that’s when players sign, but in my case, a few teams expressed interest, and the Steelers invited me,” Warren explained. “I told myself to give it everything I had—play my game, learn quickly. It’s mentally and physically exhausting, but this is what I’ve worked and dreamed for.”
A former standout at Lindenwood, Warren brings versatility to the offensive line, having experience at both guard and tackle. That flexibility could make him a valuable depth piece, especially as injuries mount during the season.
Though he still has a lot to prove, the Steelers have taken notice of his potential.
“They told me they see something in me,” Warren said. “They want me to keep developing and learn from the vets. It’s an honor to be part of this organization. I’m really grateful for the opportunity.”
Warren’s climb up the depth chart won’t be easy, but his progress will be worth watching as the Steelers begin to shape their roster for the season ahead.
