Many baseball fans are now aware of the growing tension between Him and the Boston Red Sox, with the star designated hitter becoming increasingly frustrated with the organization this season.
Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report has proposed a solution: a trade that would send Devers to the St. Louis Cardinals, where he could team up with future Hall of Famer Nolan Arenado.
At first glance, it might seem counterintuitive to trade Devers to a team that already has a Gold Glove third baseman, which is part of the issue in Boston. However, the situation in St. Louis could be quite different.
According to The Athletic’s Katie Woo, Arenado indicated during the offseason that he’d be open to moving to first base if the right opportunity came along.
Playing alongside Devers could present that opportunity, and the position shift might even elevate the Cardinals to clear frontrunners in the NL Central.
There’s also a behind-the-scenes connection between the two teams. Chaim Bloom, who was Boston’s chief baseball officer when Devers signed his extension, is now with the Cardinals and is in line to replace John Mozeliak as the team’s president of baseball operations.

Miller highlighted this connection in his trade proposal, suggesting Bloom might be especially motivated to reunite with Devers.
Bringing Devers to St. Louis would be a major move—perhaps one of the biggest in recent years—and could help the Cardinals capture their first division crown since 2022.
