Kansas State quickly addressed a key vacancy on its football staff by promoting Ray Thomas to head strength and conditioning coach following the departure of Trumain Carroll, who accepted the same position at USC, the school announced Wednesday.
“We’re excited to have Ray take the reins of our strength and conditioning program,” said head coach Chris Klieman. “He’s deeply respected by our players and staff, and his leadership style aligns perfectly with the culture we’ve built as we head into summer training and prepare for the upcoming season.”

Carroll spent five years with the Wildcats, playing a vital role in establishing a tough, disciplined team that achieved notable success, including a 36–17 record, three bowl victories, and a Big 12 championship in 2022. Before joining K-State, Carroll coached at South Florida and Arkansas.
Thomas, who has been part of the Wildcats’ strength staff for the past four years and was promoted to associate head in 2023, previously held roles at Colorado State, Arkansas, and South Florida.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity and excited to step into this new role,” Thomas told KStateSports.com. “I’m ready to keep pushing this team forward in line with Coach Klieman’s vision. Let’s get to work.”
Kansas State wrapped up the 2024 season with a 9–4 record, including 5–4 in Big 12 play, and closed the year with a thrilling 44–41 bowl win over Rutgers on December 26
