A disastrous 10-run bottom of the seventh inning led to a 12-3 defeat for the San Diego Padres against the New York Yankees on Tuesday at Yankee Stadium. It marked the first time this season that the Padres’ league-leading bullpen looked vulnerable.
Adrian Morejon took the mound to start the seventh in relief of Michael King, who had thrown six strong innings, giving up two earned runs on three hits with two walks and two strikeouts. King exited with a 3-2 lead.

Morejon gave up a leadoff double to Jasson Dominguez, who advanced to third on an Anthony Volpe single. Austin Wells then tied the game with an RBI single that scored Dominguez and moved Volpe to second.
Oswaldo Cabrera’s attempted sacrifice bunt was caught in the air by Manny Machado for the first out. A double steal then put Volpe on third and Wells on second. After intentionally walking pinch-hitter Paul Goldschmidt to load the bases, Morejon was pulled for Wandy Peralta.
Peralta walked Trent Grisham on four pitches, giving the Yankees a 4-3 lead. Ben Rice followed with a two-run double down the right field line to extend the lead to 6-3. After another intentional walk to Aaron Judge loaded the bases again, Cody Bellinger added an RBI single to make it 7-3.
Dominguez then flied out for the second out, but Volpe added another run with an infield single that Machado couldn’t handle, pushing the score to 8-3. Wells then hit a grand slam to right field, blowing the game wide open at 12-3. Cabrera grounded out to end the inning.
