BREAKING: “Retooling Season” St. Louis Cardinals Fans Receive Unexpected Big Answer On Top Pitcher Michael McGreevy

The St. Louis Cardinals’ starting rotation isn’t the worst in the league, but there’s definitely room for improvement. Despite making significant investments in their pitching staff two offseasons ago, things haven’t gone as expected.

Veterans like Sonny Gray, Erick Fedde, and Steven Matz aren’t performing at their previous levels, and while Miles Mikolas has shown improvement recently, his long-term deal hasn’t been fully justified. A fresh addition could help, and He might be just what they need.

Currently, the Cardinals have the 28th-ranked team ERA, which simply isn’t good enough—even in what John Mozeliak calls a “retooling” season. With Chaim Bloom now leading the front office, there’s an expectation for progress, especially given some promising pitching talent in the minors.

McGreevy impressed in his brief major league stint last season, posting a 1.96 ERA over three starts, and he continued to shine during spring training.

“He performed just as expected, attacking the strike zone and inducing ground balls,” manager Oli Marmol said of McGreevy. “He’s looked strong this spring, added some weight, had a solid offseason—I’m excited about what he can bring.”

It’s about time the Cardinals committed to Michael McGreevy

McGreevy didn’t make the Cardinals’ Opening Day roster and has been refining his game in Triple-A Memphis instead. Ranked as the organization’s tenth-best prospect, he currently holds a 4.08 ERA at that level. Though not flawless, McGreevy has already shown he can compete in the majors, and another opportunity in St. Louis seems likely.

According to MLB Pipeline, his sinker is his standout pitch, and they believe the 24-year-old right-hander has the potential to settle into a back-end rotation role rather than just bounce between levels:

“McGreevy continues to throw strikes and showed strong control during his short MLB appearance. His improvements and expanded pitch mix suggest he could be a legitimate back-end starter rather than a fringe contributor.”

Despite being a contender for a rotation spot in spring training, McGreevy was ultimately left off the roster. With the Cardinals currently sitting 28th in team ERA, giving him a shot could be a low-risk move worth making.
