The LA Chargers continue to work on shaping their roster even after the 2025 NFL Draft wrapped up. In addition to signing nine draft picks, they have brought in a wave of undrafted free agents. They’re also beginning to send out invitations to other undrafted players for rookie minicamp.
Among those invited to try out are Utah State quarterback Spencer Petras, Maryland offensive guard Isaac Bunyun, Mississippi State center Ethan Miner, South Carolina edge rusher Gilber Edmond, and TCU linebacker Johnny Hodges. Joining them will be a player with a recognizable last name.

Utah safety Alaka’i Gilman, the younger brother of Chargers safety Alohi Gilman, has reportedly been invited to participate in the rookie minicamp tryouts.

Gilman spent three seasons at Stanford before transferring to Utah for his final year of college football. Over his four-year collegiate career, he totaled 121 tackles, 42 run stops, three interceptions, and two pass breakups.
He was ranked #1622 on Alex Katson’s compiled big board and was listed as the 91st safety in this year’s draft class according to Dane Brugler’s The Beast.
Realistically, Gilman faces tough odds to make the Chargers’ roster or practice squad. Los Angeles recently drafted two safeties — R.J. Mickens and Trikweze Bridges — and with Derwin James, Alohi Gilman, Elijah Molden, and Tony Jefferson already on the roster, the competition is steep for an undrafted safety.
Meanwhile, Virginia Tech’s Jaylen Jones received a main roster undrafted free agent contract.
Still, bringing in the younger Gilman for a tryout could be worthwhile. Even if he doesn’t stick, it gives the Chargers valuable information that could help with future signings or waiver wire pickups from this year’s undrafted rookie pool.
