David Stearns spoke to the media before the Mets’ series opener against the Phillies and shared that José Siri is expected to be out for 8–10 weeks due to a fractured tibia.
Siri suffered the injury on April 12 when he fouled a ball off his leg during a game against the Athletics. He needed assistance leaving the field and was later taken off on a cart. Two days after the incident, the severity of the injury was confirmed, though no recovery timeline was provided until now.
The Mets acquired the 29-year-old Siri in a November trade with the Rays for reliever Eric Orze. Siri, who is under team control through 2028, has struggled at the plate in limited action this season, posting a .050/.208/.100 line with just one extra-base hit in 24 plate appearances.

In Siri’s absence, Tyrone Taylor has taken over the bulk of the playing time in center field. With limited depth at the position, Brandon Nimmo has played two innings in center, and recent call-up José Azocar started a game there over the weekend.
If Taylor or Azocar can’t hold down the spot, the Mets could consider prospects Jett Williams or Drew Gilbert from the upper minors. However, neither has started the season especially strong, so it remains to be seen if a call-up is on the horizon.
