It’s well known that New York Mets owner Steve Cohen isn’t shy about making bold moves to bring in top-tier talent. After signing Juan Soto to the richest contract in sports history, expectations are sky-high for the Mets to contend for a World Series title this season.
However, injuries and inconsistent performances from key players have raised concerns, and Cohen might need to make another splash to keep the Mets in the hunt.
One of the biggest issues so far has been the outfield, which remains a major uncertainty. To address this, one analyst has proposed a potential trade to boost the Mets’ lineup.

Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report recently suggested that the Mets consider trading for Baltimore Orioles outfielder Tyler O’Neill.
“Still, the pool of reliable options will largely depend on how competitive Baltimore and San Francisco are as the season progresses,” Miller wrote. “Luis Robert Jr. is the marquee name expected to be available, but both the Orioles and Giants have several outfielders nearing free agency.”

O’Neill, a two-time Gold Glove winner, is in his eighth MLB season and has played for three teams. After six seasons with the Cardinals and a stint with the Red Sox, he signed a three-year, $49.5 million contract with Baltimore.
Throughout his career, O’Neill has been a solid performer, posting a 13.2 bWAR and a slash line of .247/.323/.470, good for a .793 OPS—above the league average. He’s also hit 111 career home runs, bringing some power that could help spark a struggling Mets offense. Pairing him with Juan Soto could provide a much-needed boost in the outfield.
With an opt-out in his contract after this season, the Orioles might be motivated to move him at the trade deadline.
