The Chicago White Sox have struggled this MLB season under manager Pedro Grifol, currently having one of the worst records in the league. With speculation growing that Grifol might be dismissed before the season ends, there’s already talk of a potential replacement for 2025.

Grifol, who was hired in 2023 to take over from Tony La Russa, has had a challenging tenure. The team has the worst record in baseball and a run differential of -241, which is significantly worse than the Colorado Rockies. Despite facing difficulties, including a subpar roster and internal issues, the expectation is that Grifol’s time in Chicago may be ending soon, possibly as early as next week or at the end of the season.

Bob Nightengale from USA Today reports that Skip Schumaker, currently managing the Miami Marlins, is a leading candidate to become the White Sox’s next manager. Schumaker’s contract expires this offseason, and despite the Marlins’ struggles this year, he led them to the playoffs in his debut season as a manager. However, with the White Sox likely to engage in a major rebuild and potentially trade key players, Schumaker may prefer to join a more competitive team.

If Schumaker opts for a better opportunity, the White Sox may need to consider either a promising up-and-coming manager who can grow with the team or another former manager who has been previously dismissed.
