Auburn Football’s orange jerseys have a rich history, dating back to 1927. However, the most iconic period was during Doug Barfield’s era from 1978 to 1980. The team first wore orange jerseys in the 1978 Georgia game, which ended in a 22-22 tie. They continued to wear them sporadically until the end of the 1980 season.

The orange jerseys were met with excitement from fans and players alike. In fact, team captains Owen Pappoe and Derick Hall expressed their support for bringing back the throwback look in 2022. Although the jerseys didn’t make a return, the team did incorporate orange facemasks and accessories into their uniforms.

It’s worth noting that Auburn’s orange jerseys have a decent record, with 2 wins, 1 loss, and 1 tie during the Barfield era. Despite this, the jerseys were eventually phased out by Coach Pat Dye, who preferred a more traditional look.

While there’s no guarantee that Auburn will bring back the orange jerseys, the continued interest from fans and players suggests that it’s possible. Who knows, maybe one day the Tigers will don their iconic orange jerseys once again!
