The Miami Dolphins have recently been making headlines for all the wrong reasons.
They went through a chaotic season, largely due to quarterback Tua Tagovailoa missing significant time—playing just 11 games—because of concussion issues.
It was a tough campaign that tested the resilience of everyone involved and ultimately led to star wide receiver Tyreek Hill requesting a trade.
General Manager Chris Grier addressed the media on Tuesday morning, stating that the team is not considering honoring Hill’s trade request at this time.

However, Grier had a different message regarding cornerback Jalen Ramsey.
Breaking: The Dolphins and DB Jalen Ramsey intend to part ways.
GM Chris Grier said that when it comes to Ramsey's future with the team: "We decided it was probably in the best interest for all parties to move forward [separately].” pic.twitter.com/cyzWh7xctf

While Ramsey never asked to be traded, Grier revealed that it’s “probably in the best interest for all parties to move forward [separately].”
This revelation comes as a surprise, especially since Ramsey signed a massive three-year, $72 million extension with Miami just before last season, making him the second-highest paid corner in the league at the time. The decision to move on now is puzzling to many outside the Dolphins’ front office.
That said, this situation could present a golden opportunity for the Los Angeles Chargers, who are actively looking for help at cornerback.
Rookie Tarheeb Still, a fifth-round pick, emerged as one of the league’s top corners last season. However, with Asante Samuel Jr. likely on his way out, L.A. needs another elite player to line up opposite Still.
Though the Chargers have been reluctant to spend heavily this offseason, Ramsey’s contract structure could make the financials manageable. If they decide to part ways with him after one season, the cap hit drops to $18 million in 2026 and just $10 million in 2027.
Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton proposed a number of potential trade scenarios involving Ramsey, including one in which the Chargers would send a third-round pick to Miami—a deal that could be hard to pass up.
While the Chargers have been cautious about giving up draft picks—turning down a possible DK Metcalf trade over the price of a second-rounder—this situation is different. They wouldn’t need to offer Ramsey a new deal.
Since bringing in Jim Harbaugh as head coach, the Chargers have made it clear they want to build around their defense. Already solid last season, acquiring Ramsey could elevate their defense to elite status.
