BREAKING: Mets-White Sox Blockbuster Trade Certainly Help An Ailing Mets Lineup

The New York Mets currently rank second in the National League East, but their offense has been underwhelming and performing below league average. However, there’s hope on the horizon, as key players Jeff McNeil and Francisco Alvarez are expected to return soon.

Their comeback should provide a boost to a struggling lineup, but the Mets may be facing deeper issues that could require help from outside the organization. One glaring concern is center field, which has been a weak spot and could become a liability in the postseason.

To address this, the Mets might consider making a trade.

In a recent Bleacher Report article, Kerry Miller suggested Chicago White Sox outfielder Luis Robert as a potential trade option for New York.

“With Brandon Nimmo capable of sliding over to center, the Mets have flexibility to target either a center or left fielder,” Miller noted. “…Robert is the most notable name likely to be available, though teams like the Orioles and Giants also have multiple outfielders who are pending free agents.”

From 2021 to 2023, Robert put up a .287/.331/.511 slash line with an .842 OPS and a 130 OPS+, earning All-Star and Silver Slugger honors. He’s shown the potential to be a dynamic five-tool player, but his 2024 season has been disappointing. Last year, he managed just a .657 OPS and 1.4 bWAR over 100 games, a far cry from his peak form.

This season hasn’t started much better for Robert, with just six hits in his first 39 at-bats. Still, the Mets might see a chance to acquire a once-hyped star at a lower price.
