New York Mets Receive Major News

The New York Mets have stumbled out of the gate offensively in 2025. While their 8-3 record is impressive, their offensive stats tell a different story—they currently sit 17th in OPS, 17th in runs scored, and 20th in batting average. Though this could be chalked up to a typical early-season slump, injuries appear to be a more likely reason for the team’s lack of production at the plate.

Key contributors are missing from the Mets’ lineup, including Jeff McNeil and Francisco Alvarez, both of whom have yet to play this season. Fortunately, help may be on the way soon.

After the Mets played their 10th game, MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo shared a promising update.

“Jeff McNeil (oblique) is heading to Florida today (on his birthday!) to begin ramping up his rehab—something he wasn’t able to do in New York due to poor weather,” DiComo reported. “The hope remains that he’ll return before the end of April, if not sooner.”

McNeil has been a cornerstone for the Mets since breaking into the league in 2018. Over seven seasons, he’s compiled 21.0 bWAR, made three All-Star appearances, and posted a career OPS of .783. Despite a down year in 2024, McNeil remains one of the game’s most disciplined hitters with minimal strikeouts.

His contact-heavy style doesn’t produce much power, but his .353 career on-base percentage underscores his value to Carlos Mendoza’s lineup.

Getting the former batting champion back should provide a big boost as the Mets look to sustain their early success and take the next step this season.
