CONFIRMED: Commanders To Draft Top Talent To ‘Unlock Offense’

The Washington Commanders head into the 2025 NFL Draft with only five picks—quite a drop from the 10 selections Dan Quinn and his staff had last year.

With fewer picks, the pressure is on to make the early rounds count, especially as Jayden Daniels and his squad gear up for another potential playoff run.

Following a standout offensive season, the Commanders added Deebo Samuel and Laremy Tunsil in free agency to further strengthen Kliff Kingsbury’s offense. Still, NFL.com’s Bucky Brooks believes they need one more offensive weapon.

On Path to the Draft, Brooks advocated for LSU tight end Mason Taylor—son of Hall of Famer Jason Taylor—to join Washington.

Mason Taylor NFL Draft 2025: Scouting Report for LSU TE

“They’ve already added plenty of talent on the outside, but I want them to grab another playmaker—Mason Taylor,” Brooks said. “I’d love to see him reunite with his former LSU teammate [Daniels] in D.C. to boost the passing game. Pairing him with Zach Ertz for a year would allow him to learn and eventually take over. That kind of setup really unlocks this offense’s potential.”

Taylor, who posted his best college stats last season with 546 yards on 55 catches, would be a smart addition for two main reasons: he gives Daniels another reliable target while easing the load on veteran tight end Ertz. Plus, as Brooks noted, he’s a clear successor to Ertz for the 2026 season.

Having Taylor develop behind Ertz for a season before potentially breaking out with Daniels is a solid strategy. Of course, focusing on defense in the draft also makes sense, given the number of needs on Joe Whitt Jr.’s side of the ball.

Still, if the Commanders take Taylor, they get a legit offensive threat now—one who could become a star by his second year.
