As the 2025 NFL Draft approaches, the Denver Broncos have several roster needs to address. While the draft provides a chance to add talent, Denver could also explore the free agent and trade markets. One potential trade involves the Broncos reaching out to an NFC South team to target a surplus at running back.
In this scenario, Denver contacts the Tampa Bay Buccaneers about acquiring running back. With rookie Bucky Irving emerging and Sean Tucker proving to be a solid backup, White may no longer be essential to Tampa Bay’s plans.
The proposed deal would send White to Denver in exchange for a sixth-round pick. White is entering the final year of his rookie contract, and the move would free up over $3 million in cap space for the Buccaneers while giving them an extra draft selection.
With White’s contract expiring and Tampa Bay’s backfield becoming increasingly crowded, the trade could work well for both franchises. Drafted 91st overall in 2022, White has spent all three of his NFL seasons with the Bucs.
He enjoyed a strong 2023 campaign, rushing for 990 yards and six touchdowns on 272 carries—career-best numbers across the board. However, in 2024, he saw a reduced role as Irving took the spotlight, finishing with 613 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 144 carries.
Despite the dip in volume, White improved his efficiency, averaging 4.3 yards per carry—up 0.6 yards from his previous best.
White’s versatility also adds value. As a dual-threat option for Sean Payton’s offense, he’s a capable receiver out of the backfield. He’s never caught fewer than 50 passes in a season and recorded six receiving touchdowns in 2024 alone.
Adding White to a running back group that includes Audric Estime and a rookie would give Denver a deep and dynamic backfield. He’d provide immediate production while allowing the Broncos to ease their rookie into a larger role.
Landing White for a sixth-round pick would give quarterback Bo Nix a valuable weapon and bolster Denver’s offense. For Tampa Bay, it opens up more opportunities for Irving, adds draft capital, and provides cap relief—making the trade a win-win for both sides.
