The New York Mets have plenty to be excited about as they aim to build on their 2024 NLCS appearance.
In the offseason, they made a splash by acquiring superstar outfielder Juan Soto and re-signing slugger Pete Alonso. With Soto, Alonso, and shortstop Francisco Lindor, New York boasts a formidable All-Star trio.
However, their pitching staff faces challenges. Manager Carlos Mendoza has right-hander Kodai Senga, who posted a 2.00 ERA this spring after being limited to just one start last season due to shoulder and calf injuries.

But with Sean Manaea and Frankie Montas sidelined, Clay Holmes will have to take on a significant role in his first year as a full-time starter.
Adding to their rotation concerns, the Mets announced Wednesday that right-hander Paul Blackburn will start the season on the injured list with right knee inflammation, per general manager David Stearns.
MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo confirmed the news on X. Despite the setback, Stearns noted that Blackburn is expected to return in April, according to SNY.
Blackburn, who joined the Mets from the Athletics last season, went 1-2 with a 5.18 ERA in five starts for New York. Since making his MLB debut with Oakland in 2017, he has compiled a 22-28 record with a 4.85 ERA and 1.41 WHIP across 86 appearances (82 starts).
With multiple injuries in the rotation, the Mets will also lean on No. 5 starter Tylor Megill, who posted a 4.24 ERA this spring and went 4-5 with a 4.04 ERA in 2024.
New York kicks off the regular season with a three-game series against the Houston Astros, beginning on Thursday.
