Now that free agency has slowed down and we can finally catch our breath, it’s time to get riled up again. We’re in the third (maybe?) wave of signings, and the conversation has shifted to “best fits for former first-rounders,” which is just a fancy way of saying “players past their prime.”
Luckily for Las Vegas fans, “washed-up players” are kind of a Raiders specialty. To their credit, Pete Carroll and John Spytek have done a solid job of reshaping the roster in their first offseason, and it’s now somewhat plausible that the Raiders could make a splash next season.

Like every team, though, they still need a player or two. Scoring bargains is key between now and the draft, and ESPN has put together a solid list of remaining deals. The best part? One of those names will be very familiar to Raiders fans (though calling it the “best” option might be a stretch).
ESPN thinks the Raiders would be a good fit for FA WR Amari Cooper
“Just a year ago, Cooper made the Pro Bowl after a 1,250-yard season with the Browns. Even with missing the last two games, he was still one of the top receivers in the league.

He’s likely looking at a one-year deal in the same range as Williams or DeAndre Hopkins ($5 million), and he’d be a great fit for teams that need a veteran presence to support their quarterback. Teams searching for a physical outside receiver should be interested in Cooper, including a couple of his former teams.”
Honestly, I’m not against this. Maybe Cooper doesn’t have it anymore, but that’s fine if it’s just a one-year deal.
No big, cap-busting contracts left this offseason, which makes me more open to taking chances. Anything can happen on a one-year deal! A nice, feel-good Cooper reunion is right there for the Raiders if they’re interested. Sign Cooper, draft Tetairoa McMillan, and the Raiders could be set.
