Earlier this month, it was revealed that the Falcons would not extend an RFA tender to Nathan Landman, allowing him to explore free agency. The linebacker has now taken advantage of that opportunity, signing a one-year contract with the Rams on Tuesday, as announced by the team.

Landman spent three seasons in Atlanta, appearing in 36 games and starting 23. His role expanded significantly in 2023, and he now has the potential to play a key defensive role in Los Angeles.

As a rookie, Landman saw limited action on defense, primarily contributing on special teams across seven games. However, his responsibilities increased dramatically in 2023, logging 805 defensive snaps and producing 110 tackles, three forced fumbles, and two sacks while stepping in for the injured Troy Andersen.

Last season, he remained an important part of Atlanta’s defense, though a quad injury sidelined him for four games. While there was speculation that he might return to the Falcons on a lower salary after being non-tendered (which would have cost just $3.26 million), Landman instead opted to join a new team for the first time in his career.

The 26-year-old joins a Rams linebacker group that has seen Christian Rozeboom leave for the Panthers, while special teamer Jake Hummel signed with the Ravens and Troy Reeder remains unsigned. Given these departures, Landman could take on a significant defensive role; if not, he is expected to be heavily involved on special teams.

The Colorado alum earned approximately $2.5 million during his tenure with the Falcons. Contracts signed this late in free agency are typically modest, but it will be interesting to see if his deal with the Rams exceeds the value of the low RFA tender. Regardless, a strong season in Los Angeles could set him up for a more lucrative opportunity in 2026.
