Mariners GM Justin Hollander has announced the latest round of roster cuts for the team this spring, bringing the Mariners’ spring roster down to 56 players. This includes 37 rostered players and 18 non-roster invites, along with Jackson Kowar, who is on the 60-day IL.

The following players have been reassigned to minor-league camp:

  • RHP Adonis Medina
  • RHP Luis F. Castillo
  • LHP Jhonathan Díaz
  • C Jacob Nottingham
  • C Nick Raposo
  • INF Michael Arroyo

RHP Cody Bolton, who is on the 40-man roster, has been optioned to Tacoma, joining RHPs Blas Castano and Hagen Danner, who were also optioned this weekend.

These cuts come after Saturday’s reassignments, which included INF Brock Rodden and OFs Cade Marlowe, Spencer Packard, and Rhylan Thomas, all expected to be in Triple-A Tacoma next season. Lefty Josh Fleming was also reassigned to minor-league camp over the weekend.

Most of the players cut today are expected to go to Triple-A Tacoma, except for one surprising cut. Michael Arroyo, a standout during spring training and with Team Colombia in the WBC qualifiers, was reassigned despite his impressive performances.

Arroyo is the first prospect to be sent down, with top prospects Lazaro Montes and Colt Emerson still remaining with the big-league club. The crowded infield, especially with Jorge Polanco returning, likely contributed to this decision.

If Mitch Garver’s injury, which occurred after being hit by a pitch, turns out to be serious, either Raposo or Nottingham could return to big-league camp, or the Mariners may continue giving top prospect Harry Ford opportunities. Ford remains with the big-league club for now.

Additionally, there are two new additions to the roster. Righty Trevor Gott, who is recovering from Tommy John surgery, is back in camp on a minor-league deal but won’t pitch this spring. RHP Seth Martinez, claimed off waivers from Miami, is now on the roster. To make room for Martinez, Kowar was moved to the 60-day IL.
