The Chargers have decided not to bring back running back Gus Edwards. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the team has informed Edwards that he will be released, making him a free agent.
This move will free up $3.13 million in cap space for the Chargers, though it will result in a $1.125 million dead cap hit.
With Edwards’ departure, the Chargers’ running back room will now consist of Hassan Haskins, Jaret Patterson, and Kimani Vidal, as the only players under contract at the position. Additionally, J.K. Dobbins, the team’s leading rusher in 2024, is set to become a free agent next week.

Edwards was the Chargers’ second-leading rusher last season, accumulating 365 yards and four touchdowns on 101 carries. He spent six seasons with the Ravens before signing a two-year, $6.5 million contract with the Chargers last year.
