The Red Sox have signed Him to a minor league contract, as reported by Francys Romero. The right-hander initially hinted at his agreement with Boston through social media.
Now 32 years old, He was once a highly regarded prospect in the Dodgers’ system, but injuries have hindered his ability to establish a steady role in the majors. Over parts of six seasons, he has yet to pitch 20 or more innings in a single year, splitting his time across four different teams.
His most recent major league appearance was with the Twins two years ago, where he allowed 10 runs (nine earned) over 17 1/3 innings, striking out 17 batters while walking five.

That offseason, the Twins removed him from their 40-man roster, making him a free agent. He remained unsigned last year but made his return in winter ball in his native Puerto Rico.
De León performed well enough to earn another chance with Boston, likely starting the season at Triple-A Worcester.
He has a solid track record at that level, posting a 3.44 ERA across 199 innings over six seasons. However, his MLB stints have been less successful, as he owns a 7.44 ERA over 65 1/3 career innings, despite an impressive strikeout rate of nearly 27%.
