With free agency just under a month away, the New Orleans Saints may not make major moves in 2025, but there are still several available players who could be valuable additions to the roster.
This year’s approach is expected to mirror last season, when the Saints handed out numerous short-term, budget-friendly contracts to help manage their salary cap situation.
Given the current state of the roster, some signings will likely be necessary before the draft. Let’s explore a few potential free-agent targets for the Saints in 2025.
QB Jameis Winston
While the Saints may be in the market for a starting quarterback in 2025, free agency is unlikely to be their preferred route due to limited options and high costs.
However, securing a reliable backup could be crucial if they opt for a younger quarterback next season, making Jameis Winston an ideal candidate. Already familiar with the Saints organization, Winston could seamlessly transition back, even under a new head coach.

His leadership and locker room presence would be invaluable for a first-year coach and a developing quarterback. Additionally, if the starter goes down, Winston is a solid backup option. After enjoying himself during Super Bowl week, he may still have a strong connection to New Orleans despite previously departing.
DE/DT Chauncey Golston
Defensive end will be a major priority for the Saints this offseason. If they shift to a 3-4 defensive scheme, Chauncey Golston would be an ideal fit. He excels as a run defender and has the versatility to play as a 3-4 defensive end or a defensive tackle in a 4-3 system.

While his pass-rushing skills aren’t elite, his 5.5 sacks last season demonstrate his ability to contribute in that area.
Golston is coming off the best season of his career, which will earn him a pay raise, but he should still be within the Saints’ budget. At 27 years old, signing him to a three-year deal would be a great move to strengthen New Orleans’ defensive line for the future.
