The Senior Bowl is a crucial event in the pre-draft process, often sparking numerous NFL rumors about rising prospects and potential free agency moves. While much of the buzz is speculation or strategically leaked information, New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen made his offseason priorities clear.

Many around the league were surprised when Schoen was retained for the 2025 season, despite the Saquon Barkley contract standoff, Daniel Jones’ extension, and back-to-back years of double-digit losses. However, during the Senior Bowl, he reportedly signaled his primary focus for the offseason.

According to ESPN, an NFL executive stated that Schoen “made it obvious” that securing a franchise quarterback is his top priority for the 2025 NFL Draft.

This directive is said to come straight from ownership, who has urged Schoen to identify and draft a top signal-caller. Despite warnings from executives around the league about reaching for a quarterback in the first round, the Giants appear determined to do so.

While the Tennessee Titans (No. 1 overall pick) and Cleveland Browns (No. 2 overall pick) are both in the quarterback market, they have indicated a willingness to address other positions. However, the possibility of either team selecting Shedeur Sanders or Cam Ward could push the Giants to trade up.

This sense of urgency from New York could significantly drive up the price for the No. 1 overall pick. It also puts the franchise at risk of sacrificing future draft capital for a quarterback who may enter 2026 with a different head coach and general manager. This situation further highlights why the Giants’ once-strong reputation has taken a hit across the league.
