Ten days after being traded by the New York Rangers to the Vancouver Canucks in a blockbuster deal for J.T. Miller, Filip Chytil took to Instagram on Tuesday to share a farewell and thank-you message.
“I want to express my gratitude to everyone in the New York Rangers organization, especially my teammates, staff, and fans, for their support over the past seven years,” Chytil wrote. “I have so many great memories that I will cherish forever. But now, I’m loving every moment in Vancouver and can’t put into words how excited I am to be part of the Canucks organization!”

Chytil’s eight-season journey in New York was filled with ups and downs after being selected 21st overall in the first round of the 2017 NHL Draft. During his tenure, he played in 378 games, tallying 75 goals and 89 assists for a total of 164 points. Though his development took time, he grew into a reliable two-way forward.

However, injuries, particularly multiple head injuries, frequently disrupted his progress. After a breakout 2022-23 season in which he set career highs with 22 goals and 45 points, he suffered a major setback that limited him to just 10 games in the 2023-24 campaign.
Filip Chytil returns to New York to face Rangers in March
Chytil battled through adversity and returned to the Rangers’ lineup at the start of the 2024-25 season, marking his comeback with a goal in the opener against the Pittsburgh Penguins. He recorded 11 goals and 20 points across 41 games before being traded to Vancouver in a tough but necessary move for New York.

Since joining the Canucks, Chytil has contributed one goal and two assists in four games while averaging 18:39 of ice time—over four minutes more than his 14:20 average with the Rangers this season.
He made an immediate impact with Vancouver, scoring in his debut against the Detroit Red Wings to tie the game at two, though the Canucks ultimately fell in overtime.
Chytil is set to return to Madison Square Garden on March 22 when Vancouver faces the Rangers, giving Blueshirt Faithful a chance to show their appreciation, just as Chytil did in his Instagram farewell.
