The Las Vegas Raiders made headlines on Friday by hiring Pete Carroll as their new head coach, a move that has sparked optimism among their long-suffering fans for the near future.
With that decision made, the team now faces the challenge of addressing a roster with significant weaknesses.
At the top of their priority list is upgrading the quarterback position. One intriguing option is Russell Wilson, a free agent who played under Carroll for many years. Analyst Zach Gelb suggests the Raiders should pursue Wilson, noting he could be a more affordable option than Pro Bowler Sam Darnold.
After parting ways with Carroll and the Seattle Seahawks in 2021, Wilson joined the Denver Broncos, where he endured two disappointing seasons without making the playoffs. However, this season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, he showed signs of improvement, leading the team to a 10-7 record and a playoff appearance.

At 36, Wilson is no longer the dominant force he was during his prime when he was a perennial Pro Bowler and led the Seahawks to consistent contention, including a Super Bowl win in 2013 and a near-repeat in 2014.
The Raiders, meanwhile, have some building blocks, such as rookie tight end Brock Bowers, a rising star, and veteran pass rusher Maxx Crosby. Beyond those two, the roster requires significant reinforcements to compete at a higher level.
