The New York Giants currently hold the No. 3 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, but there’s a possibility the team could opt for a veteran quarterback rather than a rookie. One potential move is for the Giants to select a player at another position with their first-round pick and then pursue a quarterback through free agency or trade.

Bleacher Report’s Maurice Moton suggested several potential blockbuster trades for this offseason, including one where the Giants acquire a four-time Pro Bowl quarterback. The proposed trade involves the Giants sending cornerback Cor’Dale Flott and a 2025 fourth-round pick to the Atlanta Falcons in exchange for Kirk Cousins.

Cousins would be coming off an underwhelming season in Atlanta. While acquiring a veteran like Cousins wouldn’t necessarily rule out drafting a quarterback, it could impact the Giants’ chances of selecting their top choice. There’s a possibility that Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward could be drafted before the Giants pick at No. 3.

Moton advised that if the Giants see quarterbacks go off the board before their pick, general manager Joe Schoen shouldn’t overreach for a signal-caller, given that this quarterback class is considered weaker than last year’s.

With no quarterback under contract for 2025, the Giants are likely to pursue a veteran with substantial starting experience. Cousins, despite his age and subpar 2024 season, might be available for a fourth-round pick due to the possibility that the Falcons are looking to move on from him.

Flott, who started 17 games for the Giants in the last two seasons, could be part of the trade. Cousins, whose four-year, $180 million contract runs through 2027, could have a bounce-back 2025 after recovering from an Achilles injury. If the Giants target Cousins, they might be able to negotiate for the Falcons to absorb some of his contract.
