SHOCKING NEWS: Los Angeles Dodgers To Land New York Mets’ $152 Million Legitimate Slugger Pete Alonso

The New York Mets are considered the frontrunners to sign free-agent first baseman Pete Alonso this offseason, with Jon Heyman of the New York Post projecting a $152 million deal for the slugger.

But what happens if Alonso signs elsewhere? Which teams might swoop in to steal him from the Mets?

After Mike Puma of the New York Post outlined several potential suitors for Alonso, FanSided’s Zachary Rotman ranked them based on their likelihood of pursuing and securing the superstar. Among the teams mentioned, the Los Angeles Angels emerged as a potential candidate, although Rotman doesn’t see them as a strong contender.

Mets' Pete Alonso off to slow start offensively

“They might convince themselves that signing Alonso would make them competitive, but would Alonso seriously consider them?” Rotman wrote. “Money talks, and if the Angels offer significantly more than any other team, he’d obviously have to consider it. But outside of that, why would Alonso choose the Angels? And are we even certain the Angels are serious about pursuing him?”

For the Angels to have a shot, they would likely need to significantly overpay for Alonso. While the Mets are expected to offer a deal in the $140 million to $160 million range, the Angels might have to approach $200 million to lure him to Los Angeles.

Is such a scenario likely? Not at all.
