The White Sox have strengthened their bullpen by acquiring a player who embodies perseverance in a trade with Boston.

The Chicago White Sox traded All-Star pitcher Garrett Crochet to the Boston Red Sox earlier this offseason in a high-profile deal. Now, the two teams have struck another agreement, though on a smaller scale.

According to White Sox reporter Daryl Van Schouwen on X, Chicago has acquired left-handed reliever from Boston. In exchange, the Red Sox receive 18-year-old prospect Yhoiker Fajardo. To make room for Him on the 40-man roster, the White Sox designated outfielder Corey Julks for assignment.

His journey to the majors is nothing short of remarkable. Originally signed by the Minnesota Twins as an undrafted free agent in 2013, he began his career in the minors but never advanced beyond Single-A. Along the way, Booser endured a series of major setbacks, including a broken femur, knee surgery, broken vertebrae, labrum surgery, and a car accident that left him with a fractured sacrum.

Despite these challenges, He persevered. He returned to pitch in High-A after recovering from the sacrum injury, only to be suspended 50 games for cannabis use. In 2017, he stepped away from baseball to work as a carpenter. Four years later, He made an unlikely comeback, pitching in independent leagues before earning a minor league deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2022. After reaching Double-A, he was released mid-season and continued his career in the Atlantic League. In 2023, he signed with the Red Sox.

Booser’s resilience paid off when he earned a spot on Boston’s Triple-A roster and eventually made his MLB debut in 2024 at the age of 31.

Booser’s journey to the majors was anything but smooth. After a brief stint in the big leagues, he was sent back to the minors. However, he eventually earned a recall to Boston, where he established himself, delivering a strong performance for the Red Sox in 2024. Across 43 appearances, he posted a 3.38 ERA, a 1.34 WHIP, and recorded 43 strikeouts over 42.2 innings.

Now, Booser, often compared to the determined and unrelenting Frank Grimes of baseball, will see his perseverance rewarded by being traded to the Chicago White Sox.

The 2024 White Sox endured a disastrous season, setting a modern MLB record with 121 losses—even with Garrett Crochet performing well. The team’s struggles were so severe that owner Jerry Reinsdorf is reportedly considering selling the franchise.

Despite the daunting challenge of joining a historically poor team, Booser’s remarkable resilience suggests he may be the right player to help turn things around. Turning 33 in May of his sophomore season, he could bring much-needed stability and leadership to a struggling White Sox squad.
