The top free agent remaining on the market is Corbin Burnes, the ace of the Baltimore Orioles. According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, Burnes is expected to secure a contract worth over $250 million.
Burnes has posted impressive ERAs of 2.92, 3.39, 2.94, 2.43, and 2.11 over the past five seasons, consistently ranking among the best pitchers in baseball, from his time with the Milwaukee Brewers to his single season with Baltimore.
Michael Brakebill of FanSided recently predicted that Burnes will leave the Orioles this offseason, suggesting he could sign with the Boston Red Sox. Brakebill points to the Red Sox’s aggressive approach to building a competitive team for the future. He notes their near-miss in acquiring Juan Soto and their trade of ace Garrett Crochet, indicating that another major move is likely.

Signing Burnes would allow Boston to move former top starters Tanner Houck and Kutter Crawford into the 3rd and 4th spots in the rotation, making the Red Sox’s pitching staff one of the best in baseball.
The Red Sox are known for being particularly aggressive in free agency and, unlike the Yankees, Mets, and Dodgers, have yet to make major spending moves. Burnes is expected to sign a substantial deal soon, and it wouldn’t be surprising if it’s with the Red Sox.
