PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Pirates acquired infielder/outfielder Enmanuel Valdez from the Boston Red Sox on Sunday in exchange for minor league right-hander Joe Vogatsky.

Valdez, 25, batted .214 with six home runs and 28 RBIs in 65 games during four stints with the Red Sox last season. He also hit .233 with 11 homers and 30 RBIs in 50 games for Triple-A Worcester. The left-handed hitter made his MLB debut on April 19, 2023, and was part of Boston’s 2024 opening-day roster. He was designated for assignment on Wednesday after the Red Sox traded for left-hander Garrett Crochet from the Chicago White Sox.

Originally signed by Houston in 2015, Valdez was dealt to Boston on August 1, 2022, along with outfielder Wilyer Abreu, in exchange for catcher Christian Vázquez.

Vogatsky, 22, was selected by the Pirates in the 19th round of this year’s amateur draft out of James Madison University.
