DALLAS — Mike Tauchman is making the move across town in Chicago.

White Sox general manager Chris Getz announced during the winter meetings that Tauchman is set to undergo a physical before officially joining the team’s outfield rotation. New manager Will Venable also discussed the addition during his media availability.

While the team has yet to make an official announcement, Tauchman, 34, hails from Palatine, Illinois—about 35 miles northwest of Chicago—and played college baseball at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois. He spent the last two seasons with the Cubs.

Venable praised Tauchman’s reliability, saying, “He can control the zone, gives you a professional at-bat, and is a good defender and baserunner. Just one of those players you can count on every day.”

Tauchman joins a White Sox team coming off a historically rough season, finishing 41-121 to set a post-1900 major league record for losses. The rebuilding club has also been active in adding veteran experience, including last month’s signing of Austin Slater to a one-year, $1.75 million deal.

In 109 games this year, Tauchman hit .248 with seven home runs and 29 RBIs. He was non-tendered by the Cubs last month. Over his career, Tauchman has batted .241 with 32 home runs and 155 RBIs across 474 games, with stints in Colorado, San Francisco, and New York (Yankees). He was originally selected by the Rockies in the 10th round of the 2013 draft.
