JUST IN: Boston Red Sox Proposed Another Trade For Chicago White Sox’s $130M Ace Garrett Crochet In Blockbuster Four-Player Trade After Short In Juan Soto Pursuit

The Boston Red Sox fell short in their free-agent pursuit of outfielder Juan Soto, but President of Baseball Operations Craig Breslow remains focused on bolstering the pitching staff with an ace. While the team has frequently been linked to Max Fried in free agency, there’s speculation about whether they could strike a deal with the Chicago White Sox for left-hander Garrett Crochet.

Landing Crochet would be a significant move for the Red Sox, not only strengthening their rotation but also keeping him away from the division rival New York Yankees, who are reportedly interested in the ace as well.

Crochet earned his first All-Star selection in 2024, finishing the season with a 6-12 record, a 3.58 ERA, a 1.07 WHIP, and 209 strikeouts over 146 innings. The White Sox are actively seeking trade opportunities for the 25-year-old this offseason. FanSided’s Zach Pressnell recently proposed a potential four-player deal to make this happen:

  • Red Sox receive: LHP Garrett Crochet
  • White Sox receive: OF Wilyer Abreu, OF Miguel Bleis, RHP Richard Fitts

Abreu recently placed sixth in the AL Rookie of the Year voting and earned his first Gold Glove. Miguel Bleis, Boston’s eighth-ranked prospect, ended his 2024 season in High-A, while Richard Fitts, ranked 13th, debuted in the majors with a stellar 1.74 ERA over 20 2/3 innings.

Crochet is projected to earn $2.9 million in 2025 and remains under team control through arbitration until 2026. However, his market value for a long-term deal is estimated at six years and $130 million, according to Spotrac.
