The Philadelphia Phillies began the 2024 season with high hopes of winning a championship. They delivered by claiming the National League East title for the first time since 2011. However, their postseason journey ended early, as the New York Mets eliminated them in the NLDS.

Looking ahead to 2025, changes appear imminent. Dave Dombrowski, the team’s president of baseball operations, hinted at significant roster moves this offseason as the Phillies aim to rebound and secure their first World Series championship since 2008.

While free agency remains an option, the trade market seems to be the Phillies’ primary focus. Rumors suggest All-Star third baseman Alec Bohm might be available for the right deal. What could such a trade look like?

Cody Bellinger Set to Return to Cubs in 2025 After Declining to Opt Out of Contract

ESPN’s Dave Schoenfield proposed a bold three-team trade scenario, bringing 2019 NL MVP Cody Bellinger to Philadelphia:

  • Phillies receive: Outfielder/first baseman Cody Bellinger
  • Seattle Mariners receive: Third baseman Alec Bohm and second baseman Nico Hoerner
  • Chicago Cubs receive: Right-handed pitcher Luis Castillo and catcher Harry Ford

“The Phillies would upgrade their outfield and rely on Edmundo Sosa at third base until prospect Aidan Miller is ready, likely by 2026,” Schoenfield noted. He also suggested that some cash or a lesser prospect could be exchanged to balance the financial aspect of the deal. While this proposal is unlikely to materialize, it highlights the creative possibilities for addressing roster needs.

If acquired, Bellinger could take over in center field at Citizens Bank Park, enhancing the Phillies’ offense without compromising their defense. Additionally, his left-handed bat and postseason experience from his time with the Dodgers would be valuable assets for a team striving for October success.
