The Red Sox appear poised to invest heavily in key positions this offseason, with speculation mounting about which players might land in Fenway Park.
Although Blake Snell was a top target, the two-time Cy Young winner reportedly chose the Los Angeles Dodgers. Now, Boston is shifting its attention to other elite pitchers on the market while also pursuing Juan Soto.
In a Friday mailbag column for The Athletic, Jim Bowden highlighted the Red Sox’s aggressive offseason approach. While he questioned their chances of securing Soto, he pinpointed other potential signings he “wouldn’t be surprised” to see Boston make.
“They seem more focused on the starting pitching market, pursuing Corbin Burnes, Max Fried, and Roki Sasaki—and I wouldn’t be surprised if they end up with two of them,” Bowden wrote. “I also see them adding a bat, with (Teoscar) Hernández or (Anthony) Santander more likely than Soto.”

While many fans are fixated on the idea of Craig Breslow and his staff landing Soto, acquiring two front-line starters and a strong right-handed hitter would still mark a significant win for the team as it looks to turn its fortunes around.
The dominoes may start falling after Soto’s decision, but with the pitching market moving faster than last offseason, Burnes, Fried, or Sasaki could sign even before the winter meetings next month.
