The Boston Red Sox are reportedly eyeing several top free-agent pitchers to bolster their starting rotation. In addition, President of Baseball Operations Craig Breslow will likely need to reinforce the bullpen for 2025, with relievers Kenley Jansen and Chris Martin entering free agency.
One high-profile option could be All-Star reliever, who split his 2024 season between the Miami Marlins and San Diego Padres. He delivered a standout season, posting a 9-6 record, 1.75 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, 84 strikeouts, and 22 saves across 72 innings—a continuation of his strong 2023 breakout performance with Miami.
Between 2017 and 2022, He had a 4.61 ERA over 218 2/3 innings but turned things around in 2023, recording a 2.31 ERA and 0.99 WHIP in 78 innings with the Marlins. This dominant two-year stretch comes at an ideal time as he heads into free agency.
Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report recently predicted that the Red Sox could land pitcher Blake Snell on a $158 million deal to strengthen the rotation and suggested Boston might pursue Scott for the bullpen with a three-year, $48 million contract.

“Scott has experience as both a setup man and closer,” Miller noted. “While he’ll likely command a significant contract as one of the top relievers, it doesn’t mean he’ll be limited to pitching in the ninth inning under modern bullpen strategies.”
At the GM Meetings, MLB agent Scott Boras mentioned that Boston aims to acquire high-level talent and intends to stay active in free agency. Signing Scott for the bullpen would align with this commitment.
