The San Francisco Giants have put left-handed starter Kyle Harrison on the 15-day injured list due to inflammation in his left shoulder. The 23-year-old pitcher is likely finished for the season. Harrison struggled in his most recent appearance, giving up six runs on seven hits, including a home run, against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He also allowed five runs in his previous start against the Milwaukee Brewers. Over his last five outings, he’s given up seven home runs.

SF Giants Lose Lefty Southpaw To Shoulder Inflammation
Harrison’s 2024 Season
The rookie’s injury might be linked to his career-high 124.1 innings pitched this season. He has a 7-7 record with a 4.56 ERA and 118 strikeouts. His workload has increased by about 20% compared to his usual amount. Despite recent challenges, the Giants remain optimistic as he has shown growth and success.

However, Harrison seems better suited for a back-of-the-rotation role and hasn’t fully met the Giants’ expectations. While he has a strong fastball, his secondary pitches need improvement. Still young, Harrison can aim to enhance his performance in the 2025 season. Notably, he recorded 11 strikeouts against the Colorado Rockies on July 26 in an 11-4 win.
Harrison’s MRI revealed mild shoulder inflammation, and he is working with Dr. Kenneth Akizuki, who will re-evaluate his injury in about a week. He has been advised not to throw.
Although the inflammation has persisted throughout the season, it seemed worse in his last start. The Giants have yet to decide who will fill his rotation spot, but they have called up Austin Warren from AAA Sacramento to cover for Harrison while he is on the IL.
