The Pittsburgh Steelers have yet to officially name cornerback Beanie Bishop as their starting slot corner, but he’s expected to start against the Atlanta Falcons. However, the team wants to see how the undrafted free agent, who impressed throughout the summer, performs in his first regular-season game before making any definitive decisions.

If the Steelers do make a change, their first call might be to former cornerback Patrick Peterson. Peterson was released in March after a disappointing 2023 season in which he played outside, in the slot, and at safety. Despite his release, Peterson could offer the Steelers some stability in the slot as they navigate uncertainty across the roster.
“I’m open to taking a phone call, but I’m with you guys right now,” Peterson said on NFL Network. “So I’m kind of between both worlds… I would love to play for a contender. At this stage of my career, going into season 14, I want to have an opportunity to feel the confetti fall on me. I’ve achieved my personal goals, but now I want to experience winning a Lombardi.”
Last year’s slot corner, Chandon Sullivan, is also still a free agent, and other options, like K’Waun Williams, are available on the market.
Despite these choices, Bishop is poised to start after holding off competition all summer. The Steelers could revisit the competition by bringing in Graham, but for now, it appears they will stick with Bishop rather than pursue other signings. While Peterson could be a reliable veteran addition if injuries arise, the Steelers seem committed to their youth movement in the secondary, with all its potential benefits and challenges.
