The Chicago White Sox were heavily involved in MLB trade rumors leading up to this summer’s trade deadline. While teams can no longer make trades until the offseason, new rumors are already emerging about the White Sox’s plans for the winter.

Chicago signaled its intentions last year, trading All-Star pitcher Dylan Cease to the San Diego Padres before Opening Day and later putting a number of players on the trade block.

However, the White Sox couldn’t complete all their desired moves this summer. Shortly before the deadline, rumors surfaced that starting pitcher Garrett Crochet would not pitch in October without a contract extension, which hurt his trade value and forced Chicago to adjust its offseason strategy.

According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, the White Sox plan to trade Crochet this offseason and also aim to move All-Star outfielder Luis Robert Jr.

Crochet, who is 25 years old, will be coming off his first season with over 140 innings pitched in the majors. Teams won’t have to worry about managing his workload during a playoff race, making him a more appealing trade target, with the potential for a long-term extension.

On the other hand, Robert’s trade value is more complex. An All-Star in 2023, he posted an impressive .857 OPS last year with 38 home runs and had a stellar .946 OPS in 2021. However, this season has been the worst of his major league career.

The White Sox are hoping that Robert’s performance improves in September to boost his trade value. Regardless of how he performs, expect to hear more trade rumors this winter surrounding both Crochet and Robert.
