With only six games left in the regular season, the Philadelphia Phillies are on the verge of securing a first-round bye—welcome news for Trea Turner as he recovers from a right hamstring injury.
The extra four days of rest before the NLDS begins on Oct. 4 would certainly help, but fans can still expect Turner to return to the lineup before the regular season concludes.
Over the weekend in Arizona, the Phillies shared encouraging updates on Turner’s recovery.
Trea Turner making good progress with injured hamstring, could return to Phillies lineup on Thursday
MLB.com’s Todd Zolecki reports that the Phillies anticipate Trea Turner returning to the lineup before the weekend. He’s slated to face live pitching on Tuesday and Wednesday at Citizens Bank Park, with minor league pitchers brought in specifically to test the NL batting average leader.
The team also wants to ensure he can run at full speed before activating him. Even if Turner isn’t ready for Thursday’s finale against the Marlins, he’s expected to appear in at least one weekend game.

The timing works in his favor—if Philadelphia secures a first-round bye, Turner should be fully ready for the NLDS.
Turner originally strained his hamstring on Sept. 7 in Miami, leaving the game in the seventh inning after running out a grounder. He landed on the 10-day IL the next day, sparking concern among Phillies fans. Fortunately, it was diagnosed as a mild Grade 1 strain, much less severe than the hamstring injury that sidelined him for six weeks last season.
Turner has been a key spark at the top of the order, hitting .305 with an .815 OPS, 15 homers, 69 RBIs, 94 runs, and 35 steals across 140 games. Despite his absence, the Phillies’ offense has remained strong, fueling a September surge that clinched the NL East while Turner continued rehabbing in Philadelphia.
